LEMDO Site Tools

Para3To view the character list in a modern edition, open the menu at the top left of the page, select Content, then click Characters. Clicking will open a window on the right side of the page. Editorial notes about characters are indicated by a plus sign to the left of the characterʼs name. Click the plus sign to see the note. The plus sign will turn into a minus sign when you do this; click the minus sign to hide the note.
Para4To see the table of contents for a modern edition and navigate to specific sections of the text, open the menu at the top left of the page and select Contents. Clicking will show you a table of contents with clickable links.
Para5In modern texts, you can choose to turn annotations on or off by opening the menu at the top-left of the page, selecting Tools, and clicking the checkbox beside Display annotations.
Para6Annotations on a string of text that is one full verse line long or longer are indicated by vertical lines to the left of the text. Click on the vertical line to view the annotation. Annotations on a string of text that are shorter than one verse line are indicated by horizontal underlines. Click on the annotated text or the underline to view the annotation. Spans of text with more than one annotation on them are indicated with a double underline. Click on the annotated text or the double underline to view all annotations on that string of text. Annotations will appear in a window on the right side of the page.
Para7A collation is indicated by a small symbol with diverging arrows inside of a red circle. (A collation is a record of how the text differs across copies and has changed over time.) Click on this symbol to see the collation. You can choose to turn collations on or off by opening the menu at the top-left of the page, selecting Tools, and clicking the checkbox beside Display collations.

Site Accessibility

Para8All of our anthologyʼs images have alt text.
Para9If you are using a screen reader and are interested in early modern punctuation practices, we recommend adjusting your screen readerʼs settings to read most or all punctuation aloud when reading semi-diplomatic transcriptions.

Citation

Para10This anthology uses stable URIs for pages and entities. This means that the URLs for our website do not change and that you can expect links to pages on our website to be long-lasting.
Para11This anthology does not change between formal, periodic, numbered releases. However, each new release, which is equivalent to a new edition, may include significant new material and minor revisions to previously-published material. When you cite from an edition, do include the release number and date of the release. You do not need to include the date of access.

Find MoMS Content

Editions

Para14Click on the Editions button in the navigation bar and select Editions in the drop-down menu to navigate to the Editions landing page. To navigate to a specific showʼs landing page, click on that show in the list of published editions OR select the show by year from the Editions button in the navigation bar.

Introductions

Para15Each of our published editions has a general introduction providing an overview of the individual show. Where relevant, a separate textual introduction has been published to capture the substantial bibliographical findings that an editor has made. These introductions are particular to the show in question, but they often gesture to other shows to draw connections and encourage further reading.
Para16You can find these show-specific introductions on each showʼs edition page, which are linked to from our list of published editions.

Modern Texts

Para17To read a modern text of a show, navigate to that showʼs edition landing page, which you can find in our list of published editions. You will find the modern text in the Texts of this Edition section.

Annotations and Collations

Para18Editors have added annotations to the modern-spelling editions of each mayoral show. They may include:
glosses (notes that give a short description of a term)
commentary (discussion of the meaning of the text)
textual notes (notes about editorial decisions)
pedagogical notes (notes offering teaching tips and strategies)
performance notes (notes discussing the staging on the day of the show)
lexical notes (discussion of the etymology, meaning, and/or prevalence of a word)
lineation notes (discussion of lineation and related editorial decisions)

Semi-Diplomatic Transcriptions

Para19Semi-diplomatic transcriptions are transcribed versions of early modern books. We encourage navigation between the modern-spelling LEMDO edition and the semi-diplomatic transcription on MoEML, and we especially recommend juxtaposing these texts in the classroom for lessons on editorial practice, book history, and bibliography. You can also find facsimile images of the transcribed text in the semi-diplomatic transcriptions. To view full-sized facsimile images, click on the thumbnail image beside each page break in the semi-diplomatic transcription.
